I'm not going to waste a lot of your valuable time here trying to persuade you to take advantage of this site. I have more respect for you than that. Once you view all of the options I've included, I'm confident you will recognize the immense value of this site and recommend it to your friends.

Firstly, a little bit about myself...

Who is Smutly?
My name is Colin Brennan. I am a 50 year old chap with over 20 years experience in the tattoo field. While most of this time has been spent in the design side of the game, I did try my hand for 3 1/2 years. It's a lot harder than I thought, even with a background in design that made the mental work second nature it is a difficult art to master.

For what it is worth, here is my opinion on the tattoo business as it stands at the moment. While I wouldn't try to talk people out of tattooing as a trade, it is a form of art that needs to be shown respect. If you study under a qualified and competent artist, the whole process becomes second nature. You will also learn safe practices for sterilizing of equipment and sanitizing of work areas that don't really get enough attention in the training dvd's that get handed around like chocolate.

Whilst these people selling tattoo kits to the general public are quite entitled to, I believe that most kits are sold to people with little or NO sterilizing equipment or knowledge of correct sanitizing procedures. This lack of equipment and shortfall in sterilizing procedures will seriously damage the reputation of the tattoo industry in the coming years. To anyone out there thinking of buying a $300.00 kit and tattooing their mates, here is something they don't tell you. Suitable sterilizing equipment will cost you ten times your initial outlay for machines and colours. If you think you can get by with throw-away needles and tubes, without sanitizing the rest of your gear, you are sadly mistaken.

This is NOT the way to make a few bucks on the weekend.

What I propose instead, is that you design your own tattoos and take them to a competent tattooist to be installed. If you are good at it and enjoy the work, you can make a fair dollar by designing flash sheets and selling them to local shops. Have a talk to your tattooist while you're getting your next piece of art. You will be talking through the tattoo anyway, it may as well be a business proposal.
